Building Narratives #IRL
CHAPTER 1
The journey: A Train to Ecst"art"sy
At the age of eight, like many kids, I found myself in an art class. Sketching became my favorite pastime, but little did I know that my true journey was yet to unfold. At nine, I stood amidst my imaginative paintings of railway station sceneries, titled "The Journey", hanging on the walls of Vinnyasa Premier Art Gallery in Chennai, India. As I shared my quirky ideas with viewers, I saw how they connected with the emotions woven into my art. Before I knew it, Funskool Ltd. bought one of my paintings. The appreciation and validation I received, along with the joy of sharing my ideas with the world, sparked a passion to pursue art for a lifetime! From there, I went on to put up a series of four more exhibitions, each marking a milestone in my artistic journey.
CHAPTER 2
Wait, there is more to art?
Coming from a family of software engineers, I've always been drawn to the problem-solving aspect of computer science, which led me to pursue CS during high school and my undergraduate studies. However, I thought pursuing CS might mean sacrificing my passion for art, as I mistakenly believed art was limited to traditional mediums. Upon entering college, I eagerly joined the design club, assuming it was exclusively for traditional artists. But I was proved wrong during the club's first meeting, where I learnt about digital design. Despite initial challenges, I quickly started designing for various college events and beyond. As I honed my skills, I also organized design workshops to teach software tools and concepts to my peers. In my final year, I had the privilege of leading the Design Club, where I mentored and collaborated with talented juniors, many of whom have since become exceptional designers themselves!
CHAPTER 3
The Crossroads: Into the HCI-Verse
As my interest in both computer science and design grew, I found myself facing the pivotal question: "What next?" It became clear to me that I wanted to pursue a path that integrated both fields. That's when I discovered the intersection of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), and I knew it was the perfect fit for me. Fast forward two years, and I can confidently say that delving into HCI has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Not only have I expanded my skill set, but it has also fundamentally shifted my perspective as a designer.
